Franck Goddio is a maritime archaeologist who founded the Institut Européen d’Archéologie Sous-Marine (IEASM), an independent research institute based in Paris. Franck has collaborated extensively with the National Museum of the Philippines in the excavation of shipwrecks in their territorial waters and with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities in Egypt on the eastern harbour of Alexandria and in the Bay of Aboukir (30km east of Alexandria) where he discovered the submerged cities of Thonis-Heracleion and Canopus. His research projects have been supported by the Hilti Foundation since 1996. In 2003, in cooperation with the University of Oxford’s School of Archaeology, the Oxford Centre for Maritime Archaeology (OCMA) was founded with whom he closely collaborates on the research, post-excavation, and publication of his work.
