Franck Ghomsi is a physical oceanographer and geophysicist whose expertise spans climate science, sea level change, coastal risk, and Earth structure. He holds two PhDs, one in Geophysics and Geoexploration and one in Physical Oceanography, along with master’s degrees in both fields, providing a strong foundation in both theoretical and applied geoscience. His research focuses on sea level variability and rise, particularly along African coasts, using satellite observations, tide gauge records, and advanced geodetic techniques to improve understanding of ocean dynamics and to inform adaptation strategies for vulnerable coastal communities. His scientific contributions also include work in geodesy, gravity, magnetism, and seismic data analysis to refine models of crustal structure across Africa. He has authored peer-reviewed publications in leading international journals, including Nature Publishing Group journals, Geophysical Journal International, Gondwana Research and Earth-Science Reviews. Academically, he has served as a research associate on the West African Margins project at the University of Cape Town, as a Research officer at the National Institute of Cartography, and has been affiliated with the Centre for Earth Observation Science at the University of Manitoba. Beyond his academic work, he engages in public communication and advocacy for climate science literacy and open science, contributing to broader conversations on diversity, equity, and access within the geosciences. Through his cross-disciplinary research and international collaborations, Franck Ghomsi advances understanding of Earth-ocean processes and their implications in a changing climate.
