Francesco MacAllister-Caruso

(he/they)

Francesco MacAllister-Caruso is a PhD candidate in political science at Concordia University and a Trudeau, Vanier, and Ricard Scholar. Their research examines the citizenship and political representation of Two-Spirit, trans, and nonbinary people in Canada, with a particular focus on Québec. Grounded in community-based, participatory approaches, their work analyzes how public policy, legal frameworks, and administrative practices shape access to rights, recognition, and belonging.

In addition to their academic research, they have contributed to public debates on 2S/LGBTQ+ policy and politics through publications in outlets such as Policy Options, Le Devoir, and the Montreal Gazette, as well as national media appearances. Before and alongside their doctoral work, they spent several years working in communications and research roles in the non-profit and public sectors, including at the Community-Based Research Centre, where they supported national initiatives on 2S/LGBTQ+ health and policy.
