Fiona Armstrong

Fiona Armstrong is a nationally recognised leader in climate and health advocacy, policy, and research. With a career spanning nursing, journalism, and public policy, Fiona has led transformative initiatives at the intersection of public health and climate change for over two decades. She is the founder of the Climate and Health Alliance, where she served as Executive Director for 13 years, pioneering national strategies and frameworks that have shaped Australia’s climate-health policy landscape.

Her prolific body of work includes peer-reviewed journal articles, policy papers, and technical reports that have shaped national and international policy on healthcare, climate action and sustainability. Fiona has presented at many major conferences worldwide, including the World Public Health Congress, Global Climate and Health Summit, and National Population Health Conferences, and is a sought-after keynote speaker.

She holds a Master of Politics and Public Policy from Macquarie University and is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University in recognition of her advocacy, research and policy impact.

Fiona’s current PhD research at University of Technology, Sydney explores the role of imagination in systems change, seeking new and innovative ways to tackle the global poly-crises. Her career exemplifies the power of cross sectoral and transdisciplinary collaboration in addressing complex societal challenges through evidence-based advocacy and strategic innovation.
