Dr Finex Ndhlovu is Associate Professor of Language in Society at the University of New England, Australia. He has previously worked as Senior Lecturer in Applied Language Education at the University of Fort Hare in South Africa; Research Fellow at the Institute of Community, Ethnicity and Policy Alternatives at Victoria University in Melbourne; Lecturer in African Languages and Culture at Midlands State University in Zimbabwe; and Part-time Lecturer in English and Communication Studies at the Zimbabwe Open University. His research interests sit at the cutting edge of contemporary linguistic and socio-cultural theories around language, identity and sociality in relation to transnational African migrant and diaspora communities; language and development; language and discourses of everyday exclusion; and Southern theory. Among Associate Professor Ndhlovu's most recent major publications are the following: Language, Migration, Diaspora: Challenging the Big Battalions of Groupism (Oxford Handbooks Online, 2016); Hegemony and Language Policies in Southern Africa: Identity, Integration, Development (Cambridge Scholars, 2015); Becoming an African Diaspora in Australia: Language, Culture, Identity (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014); Nationalism Matters: The African National Project in an Age of Globalisation (Africa Institute of South Africa, 2013); and The Politics of Language and Nation Building in Zimbabwe (Peter Lang International Academic Publishers, 2009).
He is available for media enquiries on topics relating to African diasporas in Australia; African migrant languages; language, ethnicity and politics of southern Africa; linguistic and cultural dimensions of economic development; language-in-education policy; and African refugee settlement in regional Australia.
