F. Dermmillah Obare

Dr. F. Dermmillah Obare is a scholar-practitioner with over a decade of experience advancing environmental governance in Africa. She holds a PhD in Global Governance and Human Security from the University of Massachusetts Boston, as well as an MA in Conflict Resolution, an MS in Biology of Conservation, and a BS in Wildlife Management. Her research and practice focus on the design and performance of government wildlife institutions, advocating for inclusive governance models that integrate the livelihood needs of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities. Drawing on historical and legal analysis, community perspective, and spatial analysis, her work diagnoses persistent governance challenges and emphasizes the need for institutional restructuring that is responsive to local context.
