- Senior Lecturer, North-West University
Eugene Bergh obtained his B.Sc. (Geological, Environmental and Geographical Sciences) and PhD (Geology) from the University of Cape Town. His research is focused on offshore and onshore sedimentary mineral exploration studies, marine sedimentary processes, micropalaeontology, palaeo and geo-ecology, and palaeoceanography, in an attempt to understand how these dynamics are influenced by past climate changes along the southern African margin. His research is also based on understanding past geological and environmental changes to shed light on modern environmental change and its relationship with humans and related anthropogenic influences. He previously lectured geological sciences at the University of Cape Town and held an Honorary Research Affiliate position in the Department of Environmental and Geographical Sciences at the University of Cape Town from 2020 to 2022. He joined North-West University (NWU) in 2022, where he currently lectures environmental geology and also heads the Geology & Soil Science subject group/department. His research lab, the Past and Modern Marine Environmental Change (PaMMEC) lab at NWU focuses on the climate-environmental and anthropogenic dynamics of past and modern geological records.
