Ernie Lightman

Ernie Lightman taught social policy and research methodology at the University of Toronto Faculty of Social Work for nearly 50 years before retiring in 2011. He published widely in the field, including co-authorship (with Naomi Lightman) of Social Policy in Canada, 2nd edition, Oxford University Press. In 1991-2 he constituted a one person commission of inquiry into unregulated housing in Ontario. His 365 page report constituted the first and only systematic investigation into retirement homes in Ontario. Since his retirement, he has spent a lot of time with his two wonderful granddaughters and his equally wonderful granddog, Louie.
