Dr Erin Nichols is a qualified sports coach and a dedicated researcher whose work explores into the intersection of embodiment, feminist theory, and the mediation of sportswomen. As a passionate soccer player and MuayThai Boxing enthusiast and coach with over 10 years' experience, Erin not only explores these movement practices academically but also actively engages with them in her research. With a keen interest in contact and combat sports, she brings a unique perspective to coaching and researching which is characterised by a commitment to visual and participatory methodologies. By valuing participants' perspectives and insights she aims to create new knowledge that is academically rigorous and socially impactful, generating deeper insights into the lived experiences of athletes in these sports and beyond. Erin’s dedication to the creative-critical potential of an interdisciplinary approach seeks to challenge existing paradigms and contribute to a more nuanced understanding of gender, embodiment, and sport.
Professionally, Erin has worked as a lecturer and course convenor in sociology and sport management with experience in research and policy roles with UNESCO, and Griffith University, contributing to projects on gender equality, youth wellbeing, community engagement, and sport development. In addition, she also currently serves as Strategic Advisor for Sport Development and Anti-Doping with the Oceania Muay Thai Federation.
