Erik Johnson, Ph.D. researches global media and art forms, focusing on Ghana. He is currently writing a book titled "Ghana at Midnight: Rhetoric and the Invention of Freedom," which looks at political performance, crowd dynamics, and social change in Ghana during the transition from colony to nation (1947–1966). The book examines systems of public discourse that defined Ghana’s independence struggle as well as how those systemizations spread across decolonizing Africa and the African diaspora.
