Prof. Morier-Genoud works on the history of politics, religion, war and conflict-resolution in Southern Africa, focusing on Mozambique. He has published several books on Islam and politics in Mozambique, on the civil war in Mozambique, on nationalisms in Lusophone Africa, and on churches and apartheid. He has also published over 20 articles about Islam, Catholicism, Protestantism, religious competition, state mediation, democracy, armed conflict, and peace negotiations.
