Dr Elise Furlan is a molecular ecologist and environmental DNA (eDNA) researcher focused on applying genomics to biodiversity, conservation and environmental management. She completed her PhD at the University of Melbourne in 2012 and has conducted eDNA research at the University of Canberra since 2013, where she is an ARC DECRA Fellow. Elise is also Director – Science & Research at NatureDNA, an independent research organisation applying DNA technologies to real-world environmental challenges.

Elise’s research focuses on developing and applying DNA-based approaches to detect, monitor and understand wildlife, particularly rare, cryptic and difficult-to-survey species. Her work spans environmental DNA, population genomics and molecular ecology She works closely with government agencies, conservation organisations, Indigenous partners and environmental practitioners to translate molecular science into practical solutions for biodiversity management.
