Ekaterina Kolpinskaya

I am Senior Lecturer in British Politics at the University of Exeter that I joined in 2019 from Swansea University. I hold a PhD in Politics from the University of Nottingham and a Candidate of Contemporary World History degree from Tomsk State University. I am also a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
My research interests include religion in British electoral politics and political participation and representation of women, disabled people, ethnic and religious groups in Britain and other Western democracies, which stretches into several sole and colaborative research projects.
Currently, as Principal Investigator on an ESRC-funded project 'Investigating Individual And Contextual Role of Religion in British Electoral Politics', I am leading a research team building on our research on Anglicanism and the Conservative Party support, the effects of religion on Eurosceptic attitudes and on social capital in Britain.
I have recently held a Parliamentary Academic Fellowship examining how to make parliamentary working environment more inclusive for disabled politicians working in colaboration with the Centre of Excellence for Procedural Practice of the House of Commons. These findings informed evidence I gave to the House of Commons Modernisation Committee on improving accessibility of the House and its procedures that informed the final committee report published in December 2025.
Finally, I have been collaborating on the ESRC-funded 'Media in Context' project on research focusing on media effects in British General Elections published in a multi-authored book in 2025.
