Dr. Eike Buabang is a cognitive neuroscientist at Trinity College Dublin, investigating how habits form, persist, and sometimes work against us. As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, he uses experimental paradigms and EEG to explore the brain mechanisms behind habit formation and their real-world and clinical implications. His research tackles fundamental questions: How do habits shape our lives, for better or worse? Why do we sometimes act against our own goals?

Eike is particularly interested in behaviors that contradict explicit beliefs and intentions—ranging from everyday action slips (e.g., entering an old password) to impulsive behaviors (e.g., eating unhealthy foods) and, at the extreme, compulsive behaviors (e.g., substance use or repetitive checking). He is a recipient of the Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Irish Research Council for his project, “Understanding the mechanisms of habits and compulsivity: A neural decoding approach.”
