- Professor of Insect Ecology, University of Cambridge
I’m Curator of Insects at the University Museum of Zoology in Cambridge. My research investigates how ecosystems can be managed to benefit biodiversity and associated ecosystem functions, with a focus on large-scale experiments. In SE Asia, I collaborate with the oil palm industry to develop more sustainable cultivation practices within plantations, often focussing on functionally-important insect groups. In the UK, I work with the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire Wildlife Trust to investigate ways that fragmented reserves can be managed to support butterfly species in the face of climate change. Our group also works with schools to investigate more about the biodiversity found in school environments, and uses the historical insect collection housed in the Museum of Zoology, to study long-term ecological change, particularly in UK butterflies.
