Drahmane Fondo holds a PhD in Ethnology from Université Côte d'Azur (France), where he is an associate researcher at LIRCES (UPR 3159). His doctoral research, based on eight years of ethnographic fieldwork in Mali, examined child fostering practices (confiage) and street children's trajectories in Bamako. He is the founder and president of AMAPISE and the Réseau EnfanceAfrique.org, a research-action network working on child protection, traditional mediation, and social cohesion across West Africa.
