Dr. Margot Gage Witvliet is assocate professor in the Sociology Department at Lamar University. She served as the Interim Assistant Director of the Center for History and Culture and also serves as an Advisory Board member for the Center. Dr. Gage Witvliet earned her PhD in social epidemiology and public health from the University of Amsterdam/Amsterdam Medical Center (UVA/AMC). Before coming to Lamar University, she held post-doctorate fellowships at the UVA/AMC and the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. She was invited to address President Biden’s COVID-19 Task Force Team and was recognized by Health Magazine as one of the seven African American women unsung heroes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Gage Witvliet is featured in People Magazine, Washington Post, NY Times Magazine, and ABC News to name a few for her long COVID advocacy work. Most recently she made an appearance on MSNBC José Díaz-Balart Reports and discussed the BIPOC Women Long Covid group she founded that was featured in the Washington Post. She also did a Tedx Talk that has over 1 million views. Reuters News quoted her for her co-authored research on lone motherhood and for her research on the environment. Dr. Gage Witvliet's co-authored publication on corruption and health is cited by the United Nations.
