Dr. Molter has lived in Senegal, West Africa for the past 17 years. His Ph.D. dissertation was titled: Mosques to Marketplaces: Understanding and Explaining the Perceptions of the Significance of Music within Various Sociocultural Contexts in Senegal. He has also researched and written about other topics related to music as well as other aspects of Senegalese culture. His research interests include the significance of music, collectivism in Africa, music and culture, music and Islam, cultural differences between ethnic groups, and Senegalese diaspora.
