Donovan Castelyn

Donovan Castelyn is a Senior Industry Fellow in Taxation at the University of Tasmania, Director of the UTAS Tax Clinic, Project Lead for the West Coast Financial Literacy Project, and an Honorary Professor at the University of South Africa. He is also the co-founder of the Curtin Tax Clinic, an initiative recognised as part of the broader impetus for the establishment of Australia’s National Tax Clinic Program.

His work focuses on applied taxation, tax administration, clinical education, and financial literacy, with a strong emphasis on access to justice, tax integrity, and community capability building. Through his leadership of pro bono and community-based initiatives, Donovan works to translate complex tax and financial concepts into practical outcomes for individuals, students, and regional communities. His work contributes to national and international discussions on tax clinic practice, financial literacy, and professional education.

Donovan is a Tasmanian State Councillor and Academic Board Member of The Tax Institute, and a Founding Association Member of Governance Hub Inc.. He holds qualifications in both law and commerce, is a Chartered Tax Adviser, a Chartered Accountant, and is admitted to legal practice in Western Australia.
