Diego Garcia Rodriguez

Diego is a UKRI Future Leaders Fellow at the University of Leicester and was formerly a Leverhulme Research Fellow at the University of Nottingham. He holds a PhD in Gender and Sexuality Studies from University College London. His work focuses on gender, sexuality, religion, forced migration, and social justice, with particular expertise in LGBTIQ+ lives and participatory research. He is the author of Gender, Sexuality and Islam in Contemporary Indonesia: Queer Muslims and their Allies (2023), and has received funding and awards including the Leverhulme Trust Early Career Fellowship, the ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship, the UBEL DTP ESRC PhD Studentship, the Erasmus Scholarship, the NIAS SUPRA Scholarship, and the Annette Lawson Charitable Trust Scholarship. Alongside his academic work, he has also worked in the social justice sector, consulting for organisations such as the Equality and Human Rights Commission, the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Kaleidoscope International Trust, Womankind Worldwide, and World Habitat.
