Diego Alburez-Gutierrez leads the Kinship Inequalities Research Group at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Germany. His research on kinship structures, bereavement, and the multi-generational transmission of memory has been published in high-ranking sociological journals like Demography and Population and Development Review, and in prestigious multidisciplinary journals including the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and Science Advances. Alburez-Gutierrez’ research has been widely reported by international media, including The Economist, The Atlantic, Scientific American, and El País. He received his Ph.D. in Demography and Population Studies from the London School of Economics’ (LSE) Department of Social Policy.
