Dr Eratne is a Consultant Neuropsychiatrist and Consultation-Liaison psychiatrist, Chief Investigator and
Research Fellow, Honorary Fellow and senior lecturer, and PhD student. His clinical roles involve extensive
experience in the assessment, care and management and support of patients and their families with complex
neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. His research is focussed on the utility of neurofilament
light (NfL), phosphorylated tau and other markers for diagnosis, staging, prognosis, treatment response in a
wide range of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, with the ultimate aim of clinical translation:
routine widely available simple blood tests for early accurate dementia diagnosis, risk prediction and
reduction. Despite only relatively recently starting his research career, and juggling busy clinical work and life
with a young family, Dr Eratne has made significant and growing contributions to research as a Chief
Investigator on several studies. Since 2018, he has authored 50 peer reviewed publications and 1 book
chapter, with 1113 citations and an h-index of 15 (Google Scholar), which have contributed to successful
MRFF, NHMRC, and philanthropic grant applications and awards, clinical and research translation, and
extensive national and international collaborations. Dr Eratne is committed to teaching and supporting
students and new researchers, and has supervised ten psychiatry registrars, medical and Masters and
Honours students, and supported numerous more, in successful studies and publications. He is about to
submit his PhD and due to complete by early 2025, and thanks to past, current and future excellent
supervision and mentorship and collaborators, he hopes to continue to contribute significantly to
neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders research, in particular to lead to clinically translatable paradigm
shifting outcomes.
