Colin Deransart began his career as a research laboratory technician after obtaining a 2-years technical diploma (B. Eng) in applied biology from the University of Clermont-Ferrand (1989). He then continued his studies and obtained a bachelor's degree in physiology and then a master's degree in pharmacology at the Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg (1994). He obtained his doctorate in neuroscience in the laboratory of Prof. Christian Marescaux in Strasbourg, under the supervision of Dr. Antoine Depaulis (1998). His expertise in the field of epilepsy led him to complete a postdoctoral fellowship in Germany, at the invitation of Prof. C.H. Lücking, where he developed an experimental epilepsy research laboratory at the University Neurological Clinic of Freiburg (Neurozentrum, 1998-2002). As a visiting lecturer at the University of Grenoble, he participated in the settlement of an experimental epilepsy research laboratory (2003-2004), after which he was recruited as a lecturer-researcher at the Faculty of Medicine of Grenoble (2005). His work has mainly focused on the role of cerebral structures of the basal ganglia in the control of epilepsy in different animal models. Since 2020, still at the Grenoble Institute of Neuroscience, his interest in the physiology of cerebral structures of the basal ganglia has led him to join the research team "Physiopathology of Motivation" led by Dr. Sébastien Carnicella, where he participates in research in the field of behavioral addictions.
