Denva Gallant is an Associate Professor of Art History at Rice University and a specialist in medieval art and visual culture. Her research examines how images shaped ideas about race, religion, power, and human difference in medieval Europe, with particular attention to representations of Blackness in late medieval Italian art. A recipient of the Rome Prize, she is the author of Illuminating the Vitae patrum and has written for Public Books and Hyperallergic.
