Deborah Oyine Aluh

I am a global mental health researcher interested in how we can make psychiatric care more humane and rights-based, especially in under-resourced settings.

My work has focused on understanding coercion in mental health services, examining why it happens, how people experience it, and what alternatives might exist. I have conducted research in Nigeria and Portugal, working with people with lived experience and clinicians to better understand these complex issues.

I am currently exploring new research directions at the intersection of inequalities and mental health systems, particularly thinking about how and why inequalities occur in perinatal mental health in the UK.
