- Research and Innovation Development Manager for the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures, University of Leeds
As Policy Lead for the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures, I work with the Priestley Centre and the wider climate research community to shape policy impact through interconnected programmes of climate research and knowledge translation. I oversee and implement plans to grow the international Indicators of Global Climate Change (IGCC) initiative, a complex, high‑stakes, multi‑institution programme focused on informing multilateral climate negotiations.
I have a first degree in Environmental Science and a PhD in palaeoecology, after which I worked in the public sector on environmental management and sustainable development policy for 15 years. I joined the University of Leeds in 2012, working in the School of Earth and Environment on the Research Excellence Framework. In 2014, I became the Centre Manager for the Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM) and the Centre for Observation and Modelling of Earthquakes, Volcanoes and Tectonics (COMET), both of which focus on using satellite Earth observation to understand global planetary change.
In 2019 I took up the role of Science and Policy Manager for the Horizon 2020 CONSTRAIN project, developing a better understanding of how both natural and human factors will affect the climate in coming decades. As well as coordinating scientific activities across the project, my role focused on ensuring that the knowledge generated to improve climate projections could reach decision makers and be used effectively in climate policy. I am now continuing to support policy impact through my current role.
