Dean Freeman is a Wiradjuri man from Brungle Aboriginal Reserve. He has more than 20 years of experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage with NSW National Parks and ACT Parks. Now a senior officer at Riverina Local Land Services, Dean leads cultural burning programs across NSW working with local communities to restore these sacred practices and generate cross-cultural benefits. Dean is passionate about caring for Country using fire and fulfilling his cultural obligations. He works with Elders and younger generations to pass on traditional knowledge and practice. Dean also has experience in bushfire management response, helping to identify and safeguard unrecorded cultural sites.
