- Senior Lecturer in British and Imperial History, University of Exeter
I currently hold two AHRC awards for projects which explore the history of Britain's involvement in imperial and global trade networks during the twentieth century, and cultural ideas of 'British' trade identities both in the UK and overseas.
These projects build on my earlier work on British political history: 'Conservatism for the democratic age: Conservative cultures and the challenge of mass politics in early twentieth century England', (Manchester University Press, 2013) explores the dramatic cultural transformation which occurred within the discourse and practice of Conservative politics between 1900 and 1924.
I am Principal Investigator for the GW4 Modern British Politics and Political History community, which brings together researchers from the universities of Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter. See our website for more details.
