- Senior Lecturer, School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing, University of East Anglia
I work on literary theory and the history of lyric poetry. My current book project is entitled 'The Poem as Art Object: On W.S. Graham'. I joined UEA in 2012, after three years teaching at Université Paris VII – Denis Diderot. My main interests are in philosophical poetics, and in particular in the ways that philosophical thinking can inform our understanding of poetry as an art medium. I completed my PhD at Cambridge, on Poetry and Poetics in the work of Martin Heidegger. This has now been revised as Sounding/Silence: Martin Heidegger at the Limits of Poetics (Fordham UP, 2013); my second monograph, On Voice in Poetry: The Work of Animation appeared two years later. I am currently working on three projects: a book on the poetry of WS Graham; a short study on surfaces; and a cultural archaeology of privacy.
