I am a computational geoscientist, which means I use computer models to investigate problems in renewable energy and natural hazards. There are always two parts: can we predict future outcomes and, if yes, how an can we adjust our own behaviour to improve those outcomes?
Most recently, I have worked on short-term forecasting and alert systems for volcanic eruptions. I have used similar principles to forecast and manage the number and magnitude of earthquakes triggered by Oil & Gas operations, to estimate how much CO2 can be injected safely underground, and to determine how much steam can be sustainably taken from a geothermal field.
