Danita Hohne

(Miss)

I have been responsible for the management and monitoring of groundwater resources for towns in the Western Karoo since 2009, serving for 16 years as an official at the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS). In my current role, I continue to manage groundwater resources, with an expanded focus on towns across the Northern and Western Cape provinces.

During my tenure at DWS, I completed an M.Sc. in Geochemistry in 2020, with research focusing on Karoo groundwater systems and the potential implications of hydraulic fracturing. In 2023, I commenced a PhD at the University of the Free State in Integrated Water Resource Management. My doctoral research investigates the application of small-scale Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) in the Karoo as a strategy to enhance groundwater resilience and mitigate the impacts of climate change. I have also authored and co-authored several peer-reviewed publications.
