Daniel Thomas Potts

Daniel Potts has decades of archaeological survey and excavation in the Near East (since 1973), mainly in Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. He has taught at universities in Europe, Australia, and the U.S. He has published extensively on Iran, most recently Qajars and Catholics: Tehran, the Vatican and the Lazarist Mission in Iran (Leiden/Boston: Brill, 2025); Albert Houtum Schindler: An Inquisitive Polymath in Late-Qajar Iran (Washington DC: Mage, 2023); Aspects of Kinship in Ancient Iran (Berkeley/Los Angeles/London: University of California Press, 2023); Agreeable News from Persia: Iran in the Colonial and Early Republican American Press, 1712-1848, 3 vols.
