- Professor of History, Truman State University
In addition to my history Ph.D., I have an M.A. in Environmental Policy from Tufts University. I've taught at Truman State University since 1999, and before that in one-year positions at various schools. I've written six books and a dozen articles on Native Americans in New England 1600-1900, focusing on issues of race and class, and in April 2020 my _The Lost Tradition of Economic Equality in America, 1600-1870_ was published by Johns Hopkins. For that work I've received research fellowships from the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri, National Endowment for the Humanities, Massachusetts Historical Society, Library Company of Philadelphia, and the American Antiquarian Society.
