Daniel James Jolly

I am a current PhD candidate at the University of East Anglia in the School of Environmental Sciences, specialising in biodegradable plastics. I study how their role as litter in the open environment could influence the structure and functioning of ecological communities.

My particular research interests include how biodegradable plastics may affect invertebrate community structure and succession in marine and freshwater ecosystems. I also investigate the potential interactions and roles biodegradable plastics may cause as an environmental stressor in conjunction with other environmental conditions such as temperature, nutrient loading and oxygen content. And I explore how biodegradable macroplastics evolve over time and the different potential effects on ecosystem function they may have at different stages in their life cycle.

I have a MSC in Oceanography from the University of Southampton, where I specialised in how environmental context impacts the functioning and behaviour of marine invertebrates. I have a BSC in geography from the University of York.
