Dane P. G. Wattle

Dane Wattle is a marine biologist and taxonomist, undertaking his PhD at the University of Technology Sydney. His research has led him to the remote reefs of the Australian Northern Territory, where he works closely with the Anindilyakwa Land & Sea Rangers. He has worked extensively as an ecologist and is passionate about natural ecosystems and the organisms that inhabit them. His research interests broadly encapsulate biodiversity; in both what species are and how they relate to each other.

Most recently, his focus has shifted to the benthic ecology of the understudied Groote Archipelago, NT. Together with the Anindilyakwa Land & Sea Rangers and other collaborators, he works towards a taxonomic assessment of the region's reef-building corals and their photosynthetic algal symbionts. Dane is committed to collaborative and co-designed research, recognising just how important Traditional Owner communities and their ecological knowledge is to reef science.
