Dr Daan R van der Veen is a Senior Lecturer in Sleep and Chronobiology in the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey since 2012. He received both his MSc and PhD in the fields of Chronobiology at the University of Groningen (the Netherlands), and worked as a visiting researcher at Columbia University (USA) and as a postdoctoral fellow at University of Surrey (UK) and University of Notre Dame (USA) before joining the University of Surrey Faculty. Daan has extensive experience in the field of behavioural genetics of Sleep and Chronobiology, focussing on both ultradian and circadian rhythms. Daan has a specific interest in the intersection between different timing systems that interact such as misalignment of the light and food driven circadian rhythms, and sleep displacement, which relate to the negative health and welfare issues associated with our 24-hour society.
