- Assistant Professor (Research Focussed), Warwick Medical School, Health Sciences, University of Warwick
Corinna is a highly experienced researcher with a wide portfolio of interests that spans medical and life sciences.
Corinna's research explores the social and ethical implications of using genetics in healthcare, for example, through screening (pre-conception, pre-natally, post-natally) for rare genetic conditions. Much of this work aims to bring to the fore - and represent - the voices of all parties interested in and affected by genetic conditions (policy-makers, clinicians, public, people living with rare conditions, charity/support sector). For example, recent research, with Prof Felicity Boardman, has explored the Acceptability of Screening Newborn babies for Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Also see the Imagining Futures research programme.
Corinna is passionate about research communication, as demonstrated through her public engagement work, such as the I:DNA art installation and workshops to engage children, who will be making many decisions around genetic testing as adults.
Associated with her interest in science communication, Corinna is also passionate about bringing public and patient voices into the research process, through co-production in Public, Patient, & Community Involvement and Engagement (PPIE/PICE). With Prof Sophie Staniszewska, Corinna's research looks at the design and implementation of effective PPIE within vaccination modelling (MEMVIE). This includes the process and dynamics of creating accessible knowledge spaces and developing a shared understanding to enable meaningful collaboration.
Much of Corinna's research has direct policy impact and she regularly works with the UK National Screening Committee (NSC) and the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
Corinna is part of the Warwick-Birmingham Screening Evidence Synthesis Group (WeBS-ESG), which provides evidence reviews to the UK National Screening Committee. As well as a reviewer, Corinna is the PPIE lead for WeBS-ESG.
Corinna is keen to explore multi-disciplinary collaboration, and manages the Social and Ethical Research in Genomics Network (led by Felicity Boardman).
Corinna is co-deputy lead of the Social Sciences in Health and Illness network.
