Constantino Macías Garcia studied Biology (BSc and MSc) at the national university of Mexico (UNAM), and got his PhD from the University of East Anglia (UEA) in Norwich, England. He has worked mostly on sexual selection, trying to help understanding the origin and consequences of male ornamentation, which he studies in fish and in birds.
More recently he has also studied how animals adapt to the conditions imposed by mankind on the environment, such as noise pollution and the omnipresence of rubbish. His work appears regularly in learned journals, and he has a long-standing collaboration with academics from the University of St. Andrews, Scotland. He is a full-time researcher at, and currently the director of, the Instituto de Ecología, UNAM.
