- PhD candidate in Earth Sciences, Carleton University
I completed my BSc in Zoology with first-class honours at the University of Calgary. I also completed my MSc in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of Calgary. I am now a PhD candidate in Earth Sciences at Carleton University.
I won an Alexander Graham Bell CGS D from NSERC for my PhD research (ongoing) and a CGS M for my MSc. I also received a student research grant from the Society of Vertebrate Paleontology (the Wood Award for Student Research) and a Wainwright Student Fellowship from the University of Washington's Friday Harbor Labs.
My own research focuses on early (Palaeozoic) fish. For the last eight years (BSc + MSc + PhD side projects) I have worked on describing the ray-finned fish fauna from a site called Blue Beach in Nova Scotia. My research now focuses on functional morphology of Palaeozoic fish rather than description.
I have been privileged to participate in palaeontological fieldwork all across Canada.
I have been a Public Relations editor for the journal Palaeontologia Electronica for the last two years. I have also some blog posts for IOB Journal.
