Colm Murphy

I am a contemporary historian of British and Irish politics, whose research lies at the intersection of party politics, ideology, and the political economy of the ‘West’ or ‘global north’. My expertise lies particularly in traditions of socialism and social democracy, the British Labour Party, and in the politics of macroeconomic policy, especially in rich countries.

I joined the Department of Politics and International Relations at Queen Mary University of London in 2022. Previously, I had studied at the University of Cambridge, before undertaking a PhD at Queen Mary, and then a Past & Present postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Historical Research.
