Clare Walter

(Dr)

Clare Walter coordinates the Sustainable Health and Environment Network (SHEN) at Deakin University and lectures in Human Sciences and Health Geography at the University of Melbourne. She holds a cross-disciplinary PhD in Public Health and Policy from the University of Queensland, which examined the health impacts of air pollution in Australia and how evidence can inform more effective mitigation and public policy.

Clare’s background as a clinical pharmacist, including work in lung cancer clinics at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, shaped her interest in environmental exposures such as diesel exhaust and their links to non-smoking-related lung disease. Her current work spans environmental health, health service planning, and public policy analysis, with a focus on translating research into practical interventions. She has experience working across clinical, academic, and public health sectors, and is particularly engaged in evaluating models of care, analysing health and demographic data, and supporting public health advocacy.
