Clara Strauss

I am passioante about the application of psychological theory to supporting wellbeing, good mental health and compassionate working cultures. As well as working in the School of Psychology, I’m a Consultant Clinical Psychologist working in Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust where I work in the Research Department (see below for link to website) and in adult mental health primary and secondary care services.

My particular research interests are in developing and evaluating the effectiveness and mechanisms of action of mindfulness, CBT and other interventions for a range of mental health difficulties including depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder and distressing voices. I also have a interest in developing and evaluating mindfulness- and compassion-based interventions to support NHS staff wellbeing and to foster compassionate working cultures. I have been CI and a co-applicant on a large number of research studies in these topic areas funded by, among others, NIHR, Health Education England, MRC, MQ and industry partners.

In Sussex Partnership, I co-lead Sussex Mindfulness Centre (see below for link to website) and lead the OCD Clinic (see below for link to website) which is a service for adults struggling with obsessive-compulsive disorder.
