Claire Leppold is a Research Fellow at the Disaster, Climate & Adversity Unit, Melbourne School of Population and Global Health, University of Melbourne. After living and working in Fukushima following the 2011 ‘triple’ disaster (earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster), Claire moved to Australia to begin research on recovery from the 2019-20 bushfires and repeat flood events. Claire’s research is focused on the effects of cascading and compounding disasters, and ways of supporting communities that experience more than one disaster. She received her Masters in Global Health and Public Policy, and her PhD in International Public Health Policy, from the University of Edinburgh.
