Claire Browning is the Curator of Geology and Invertebrate Palaeontology at the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town. She holds a PhD on the Late Ordovician Soom Shale from the University of Cape Town, where she is an Honorary Research Associate. Claire began her career at the Council for Geoscience (Geological Survey), where she spent eight years in geological mapping and sedimentological research. In 2018, she joined Iziko as Curator of Karoo Palaeontology, a role she held for seven years before taking up her current position. While continuing to collaborate on a wide range of Karoo-related topics, her current research focuses on the end-Ordovician event (about 444 million years ago) as recorded in the rocks of the Cape Mountains. She is also committed to making palaeontology accessible to a broad audience through museum-based education and public outreach programmes.
