- Lecturer in the History of Medicine, University College Dublin
I am a Lecturer in the History of Medicine at University College Dublin. Supported by a Wellcome Trust University Award, my research studies the global history of infectious disease control and pharmaceutical R&D.
I have published multi-award winning books on the history of antibiotics (Pyrrhic Progress, Rutgers University Press, 2020) and farm animal welfare (Bearing Witness, Palgrave Macmillan, 2021).
Public engagement is an important part of my work. I have curated critically acclaimed exhibitions on the history of antibiotics ('Back from the Dead', 2016-2017) and the past, present, and future of typhoid control ('Typhoidland', 2020-2022).
