I graduated from the intercalated MBChB PhD program at the University of Otago and hold a BSc with high honours from Idaho State University (completed on an NCAA tennis scholarship).

I am a Senior Lecturer at the University of Otago Wellington (Department of Medicine). I work as an Internal Medicine physician and Geriatrician at Wellington Hospital and am the Clinical Ethics Advisor for Te Whatu Ora, Wellington and Hutt Valley. I am also a member of the recently established Clinical Ethics Society of Australasia and sit on the Ethics Advisory Board for CHDI/Enroll-HD - an international group trying to find a cure for Huntington's Disease. I am a member of the Public Health Association of New Zealand.

My research interests focus on patient safety and patient rights as well as the ethics of advanced treatments for movement disorders. I have a special interest in a rare disease - acute hepatic porphyria.
