- Professor, Dept of Sociology and Social Studies, University of Regina
I am a community engaged scholar with research that spans national and international borders. It frequently engages with feminist and Indigenous rights.
Here today, Gone tomorrow: Public Transportation and Vulnerabilities in Rural and Remote Canada is the title of the Knowledge Synthesis Grant I received in 2021 with a team of researchers from across Canada. I am a SSHRC Insight Grant holder with a study on the Indian residential school Settlement Agreement, called Reconciling Perspectives and Building Public Memory: Learning from the Independent Assessment Process. I have worked on SSHRC grants regarding Indigenous practices in Saskatchewan and Chile and Indigenous knowledge and intersectionality.
From 2016-2018 I was the President of the Canadian Research Institute for the Advancement of Women, a national feminist research organization. I am currently the President of the Canadian Assoc. for the Study of Adult Education.
I also work on community-based research on public transportation (buses) and labour union education. In 2019 I was first author on a book published by Fernwood, Cracking Labour's Glass Ceiling: Transforming lives through women's union education.
My scholarship critically links teaching, learning, research, and community engagement. Prior to my position in sociology, I worked in the field of adult education.
