Christine Logel

Christine Logel, PhD, is a social psychologist and Professor of Social Development Studies at Renison University College, affiliated with University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada. In her research, teaching, and service, she develops and tests psychological interventions to promote institutional change to help foster belonging and growth, increasing equity in academic achievement and improving well-being for disadvantaged students. In her newer research, she studies AI-human interactions and human sexuality and relationships.
As a faculty affiliate with the Equity Accelerator and, previously, co-founder of the College Transition Collaborative, she and her collaborators produce, test, and disseminate tools postsecondary instructors can use to create equity, belonging, and growth in their classrooms. Their social-belonging intervention has been completed by over 140,000 postsecondary students and the a multi-site RCT was published in Science. Their workshop module for creating an equitable syllabus, on which she was co-designer and instructor, has been taken by over 1200 postsecondary faculty, with 92% of those surveyed reporting that they would recommend it to a colleague. They also produced a postsecondary instructional tools library, with step-by-step instructions for equitable classroom activities with over 6,800 unique page views.
Dr. Logel earned her PhD in social psychology at University of Waterloo, followed by postdoctoral fellowships at University of Colorado, Stanford University, and University of Waterloo. She received University of Waterloo’s Equity Award for her work promoting women’s success in STEM fields. Her work has been funded by the Raikes Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, NSF, SSHRC, and HEQCO. Dr. Logel teaches Introductory Psychology and online upper year courses in Personality and in Psychological interventions and is the 2025 recipient of Renison's Excellence in Teaching Award.
