Chris is Professor of Social Sciences at Cardiff University and is the Academic Director of the Cardiff University Social Science Research Park (SPARK). He is also a core member and Wales lead of the . Chris has published extensively on a wide range of educational and social issues and has undertaken research across all education sectors, from early years to higher education. He established the WISERD Education Data Lab in 2021, utilising education administrative data to support education priorities in Wales and helps convene the annual WISERDEducation Multi-Cohort Study (WMCS). Chris also helped establish the ESRC International Public Policy Observatory (IPPO) to mobilise evidence to policy-makers during and following the COVID-19 pandemic. Chris is a Fellow of the Learned Society for Wales and was the inaugural winner of the Hugh Owen Medal for outstanding contribution to educational research in 2017. He now leads the world's first social science research park, that co-locates leading research centres with organisations from the public, private and third sectors.
