Chris Proudman

Chris’s overarching research interest is equine intestinal health. He currently leads the Horse Microbiome Research Group which is is working towards understanding how gut microbial communities influence many aspects equine health. A particular focus of the group is the early-life gut microbiome of foals.

He has previously led a nine year post-operative survival study of horses undergoing intestinal surgery and has published widely on different types of equine intestinal disease, including intestinal parasitism and equine grass sickness (dysautonomia).

Earlier in his career, Chris was a clinician and equine surgeon. His clinical expertise included equine intestinal and orthopaedic disease and he worked in clinical capacity on racecourse around Northwest England.

Chris's is currently a member of Aintree Racecourse Committee, and provides horse welfare consultancy for The Jockey Club.
